- Provided care to meet the needs of 132 children to better prepare for the future
- Supported 140 young people through facilitating community outings
QBE has supported Singapore Red Cross’ Young Hearts Programme for the past two years, consistently providing opportunities and ensuring equality for over 100 children and youth.
QBE’s funding has played an important role in driving this programme to better prepare children and youth for the future, including:
- Providing nutritious meals for a healthy body and mind
- Rolling out education, mentorship and enrichment opportunities to support the growth of children and youth cognitive and social capabilities
- Encouraging social interactions among children and youth during classes and outings
- Pulling the community closer together through platforms like gatherings to strengthen community spirit
- Providing children and youth the space to learn and grow from each other during classes, outings, and sports
- Recognising children’s achievements (academic and social)
- Empowering children and youth to take the lead during small group discussions
The Young Hearts programme uses QBE’s donation to promote academic and social mobility for children and youth born into poverty, with the intention to provide them with equal opportunity in the future.
The Young Hearts Programme is aimed at empowering the younger generation (children and youth between 7-16 years) by addressing their challenges in literacy, character development and social support/networks.
The programme focuses on three areas:
- Education: Offering weeknight tuition classes to establish a strong academic foundation and fill curriculum gaps
- Enrichment: Providing holistic wellbeing through weekly sports sessions and workshops
- Excursions: Creating exposure to diverse activities and environments to foster a sense of community
Mentorship is embedded within all three areas of the programme, with children working with a community volunteer providing positive role models and motivation.
Young Hearts officially opened the Nee Soon Care Corner at Yishun Street 22 on 16 Jan 2024, providing safe space to deliver tuition and support children and youth.
