QBE and Sydney Swans stand together for Mardi Gras 2019

QBE is proud to demonstrate its commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce through its debut appearance at Mardi Gras 2019 – the world’s biggest celebration of LGBTQI pride.

To mark its first Mardi Gras parade, QBE will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with long-standing partner, the Sydney Swans, with a jointly branded float set to join the spectacular fleet weaving its way through the streets of Sydney on 2 March 2019.

Celebrating the festival’s 41st Sydney event, QBE and the Swans look forward to joining the festivities on the biggest night of the LGBTQI calendar, which aims to shine a spotlight on the lives, culture, and creativity of the LGBTQI community.

Members of QBE’s internal LGBTQI employee network, QBE Pride, will be joined by members of Sydney Swans official supporter group, the Rainbow Swans, marching proudly alongside one another.

QBE Australia and New Zealand Chief HR Officer, Eleanor Debelle, says QBE is looking forward to showing its support for the LGBTQI community in the insurer’s first appearance at Mardi Gras.

“QBE is passionate about the positive impact an inclusive culture can have in our workplace and for our customers and partners. We’re proud to stand up and join hands with our long-standing partners, the Sydney Swans, to make our Mardi Gras debut next year, celebrating the importance of visible LGBTQI inclusion throughout the streets of Sydney.

“Our QBE Pride employee network is looking forward to marching alongside the Rainbow Swans to mark this important occasion.”

Incoming Sydney Swans CEO, Tom Harley, said it’s important to be a part of Mardi Gras 2019.

The Sydney Swans are extremely proud of our involvement with the LGBTQI community and being part of next year’s Mardi Gras will be a really important and memorable evening for all involved. Our involvement in Mardi Gras 2019 has certainly been made possible through the support of QBE and we’d like to thank all involved for their efforts.”

Rainbow Swans Chair, Sarina Jackson, added: “We're really excited to be a part of Mardi Gras again next year and celebrate with the QBE Pride network. Our Rainbow Swans members had an amazing time sharing their passion for the Sydney Swans and reinforcing our commitment that ‘Everyone is welcome at the footy’,”
