QBE awarded for longstanding commitment to the community

QBE Insurance has been awarded ‘Best Community Engagement Program – Insurer’ at Insurance Business Australia’s inaugural Insurance Business Awards.

An arm of global publishing company Key Media, Insurance Business Australia hosted more than 600 of Australia’s top insurance professionals at The Westin in Sydney to present awards across 25 categories.

The ‘Best Community Engagement Award – Insurer’ recognises service or contribution to the wider community over a sustained period of time.

QBE won the award for its contribution through global initiative the QBE Foundation, and its Indigenous community commitment through a partnership with Jawun.

QBE Foundation Chair Bettina Pidcock said the award reflects the organisation’s wider values and its objective of helping people in the community to overcome disadvantage, strengthen their abilities, and live more independently, successfully and productively.

“Supporting people within our community who are in need, vulnerable or disadvantaged is part of our organisational DNA, and we’re so proud to be recognised among our peers for this work.” said Ms Pidcock.

The QBE Foundation works with carefully selected charity partners, who are provided with a one-off cash donation and a commitment of support for an agreed period of time. The partners also offer QBE employees volunteering opportunities throughout the year, allowing our people to provide more than just financial support to those in need.

“This award is testament to the passion our people have for the QBE Foundation and the work that goes into nurturing these partnerships,” said Ms Pidcock.

The award also recognises QBE’s work with longstanding partner Jawun. The Jawun program sees QBE’s people joining with communities of First Nation Peoples around Australia, in locations from Redfern to Cape York and the Kimberley, to share their skills and help build capabilities.

“Along with bringing lasting, material and measurable improvements to the lives of Indigenous people, our people have reported experiences that are humbling and inspiring,” said Ms Pidcock.

“At QBE we strive to give back to the communities in which we operate. We’re so honoured to win an award for this and excited to see what else is possible in the future.”
