QBE helps Indigenous youth scholarship program GO further
The QBE Foundation, the charitable arm of Australia’s largest global insurer, has donated $10,000 to the GO Foundation (GO)’s Indigenous youth scholarship program.
GO co-founder and Swans great Michael O'Loughlin accepted the donation at the Swans’ Marn Grook match at the SCG on Friday.
QBE Australia Pacific Foundation Chairperson Bettina Pidcock said QBE was proud to once again support GO’s work championing Indigenous education and the donation was part of the insurer’s mission to make a positive difference to the communities it operates within.
“As one of Australia's largest insurers of Indigenous communities we’re committed to supporting and celebrating Indigenous Australians, and we’re pleased to once again demonstrate this commitment with the help of our long-time friends at GO.”
“GO’s scholarship program makes a meaningful difference to the lives of young Indigenous Australians and directly aligns with the QBE Foundation’s mission to help people overcome disadvantage, strengthen their abilities and live more independently, successfully and productively.”
Mr O’Loughlin said the grant would help create better learning experiences and outcomes for Indigenous students.
“QBE’s donation provides much needed support to the GO Foundation’s scholarship program, supporting students from kindy through to tertiary studies, helping us create brighter futures for hundreds of Indigenous Australians.
“Our scholarships provide resources and tools critical to our students learning experience including laptops, at-home Wi-Fi, books, uniforms, excursions, school camps, musical instruments, sports equipment, and coaching.
“Thank you to QBE for its invaluable support over many years.”
QBE has supported the GO Foundation since 2014 and is part of the GO Ecosystem - a collaborative network of corporate partners, educational partners and other organisations working together to support Indigenous students.
The donation presentation took place at the Sir Douglas Nicholls Indigenous round which is an annual AFL initiative formally recognising and celebrating Indigenous Australian players and culture.
The QBE Foundation also supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities via a number of additional community partnerships and support initiatives with organisations including Foodbank, Mission Australia and CareerTrackers.
