QBE achieves “Advanced Workplace” status for Mental Health First Aid
QBE Insurance (QBE) has been recognised as the first Australian financial institution and insurer to be promoted from a Skilled Workplace to an “Advanced Workplace” by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia.
Established in 2015, the Mental Health First Aid Workplace Recognition Program acknowledges workplaces for their commitment to Mental Health First Aid training, not only by investing in the development of mental health first aid skills for their people, but also by showing a strong commitment to embedding the program into the organisational culture.
QBE was elevated to “Advanced Workplace” by demonstrating a continuous and sustained commitment to promoting mental wellbeing within the organisation and amongst key partners, along with implementing a minimum of 12 specific actions that support Mental Health First Aid training requirements.
One of these actions was the expansion of its Mental Health First Aid Officers (MHFAO) employee support network across its Australian and New Zealand operations to continue to raise awareness, increase accessibility, and provide resources to support employee mental wellbeing.
Shiona Watson, Chief People Officer, QBE Australia Pacific, said the recognition highlights QBE’s commitment towards creating a workplace environment where employees feel supported, valued, and empowered to prioritise their mental health.
“This is a wonderful recognition which reflects QBE’s continued commitment to creating a supportive and nurturing work environment that ensures our people have the support they need to thrive both personally and professionally.
“Investing in mental health enhances employee satisfaction and productivity as well as contributes towards a positive and resilient workplace. This recognition highlights the commitment of our Work Health and Safety team and our Mental Health First Aid Officers towards the wellbeing of our people.”
